Finding The ‘It’ Of It

I took a long walk with my dog early this morning. I went all through the city and saw life in motion. A shoeshine guy was setting up his stand. A taxi driver was sipping coffee by the curb.

A street performer warmed up in the park.

A delivery driver double-parked, getting a shipment from the back.
A food truck owner is prepping the grill.
A woman in a suit. A man in scrubs. Several on corners.

Each person is moving. Each one starts their day. Some with abundance and others with almost nothing.

It reminded me of the old proverb:

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.
Every morning a lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or the gazelle—when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”

But this morning, I didn’t just see the hustle. I saw the why behind it.
People looking for something—purpose, security, identity, connection, and survival.

Different lives, different roles, same pursuit.

Look closely enough, and you’ll see we’re not all that different.
We’re bound by a shared instinct to keep going, to matter, to make meaning of our time here.

Whether you shine shoes, save lives, write code, or close deals—
we all wake up and we get after it - what ever “it” is for you. Good luck!
